Looking for a day filled with nature, culture, and relaxation along the Dutch coast? Hop on your bike and explore the Heritage to Horizon Cycle Trail. This route takes you past dunes, castles, and charming villages in the Bloemendaal and Haarlem region. Your starting point? Boutique Hotel Blendin, your coastal basecamp.
Start at Boutique Hotel Blendin, on the edge of the National Park
The trail begins at Boutique Hotel Blendin in Bloemendaal aan Zee. From the hotel, you cycle straight into the dunes with views of the sea and beach. Follow the Zeeweg (N200) towards the village of Bloemendaal and head further inland.
First stop: Ruins of Brederode
Just under 20 minutes by bike, you’ll find the Ruins of Brederode — a 13th-century remnant built by Willem I van Brederode. The place still breathes the atmosphere of knights and castles. A perfect spot to take a break and soak up the region’s history.
Through the dunes of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park
From Santpoort, cycle back towards the coast, right through Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Winding paths take you past sand drifts, dune grasslands and scenic viewpoints. You might spot Highland cattle, deer, or wild horses along the way. It feels like escaping it all—just for a moment.
Pit stop in Bloemendaal village
After the quiet of the park, you’ll arrive in the centre of Bloemendaal. Think boutique shops, galleries, and cosy terraces. Ideal for coffee or lunch. From here, you ride back to the coast via Overveen.
Back to Boutique Hotel Blendin
The final kilometres guide you back to the sea. The dunes give way to the coastline again. Back at Blendin, unwind with a drink, take a refreshing shower, or end your day with dinner at our bistro.
